What if we could take a magic pill to become better teachers?
Well, we can. It’s all about how we look at our ability to connect with the learners.
So if confidence was the magic pill...
93% of drivers in the USA believe their skills to be better than average, and 90% of managers rated their performance in the top 10%.
And what about teachers?
Well it’s hard to say, because most avoid real self-reflection. In fact, as one participant puts it in a recent study by Canning, it gives a “squirmy feeling of vulnerability”.
But here’s the catch: “When reflection doesn’t work for me, it’s because I’m avoiding certain questions . . . because they make me feel vulnerable. I have to take a risk. It’s an issue of identity. ”
Teaching is, to some extent, a craft. As craftsmen & women, we have very subjective opinions about our work. And as humans, we seek evidence that validates that opinion and filter out the rest.
Without recognizing our flaws and using our strengths to our advantage, we cannot make progress. We get stuck. That magic pill becomes more than just confidence: it's a discerning eye and ability to face those difficult questions.
Progress comes from creating change. You know that you can make change happen, but if you don’t know where you are going, how will you know when you’ve created that change?
And I would be glad to help you make that change. Join my workshop, “Crush and Evolve” next Saturday, Oct 24, where we will:
- Draw up a clear roadmap: set yourself a path to victory, and hold yourself accountable for it.
- Crush the resistance: embrace the vulnerability, and define your beliefs in a way that is constructive.
Both are in the form of live 90 minute webinars, followed by accountability tasks. You also have a 1:1 coaching call with me to make sure that you are targeting the areas that serve you best.
Price of the course is $29 for this week only.
Or, join the “Teacher Accelerator” version for $79. All of the above plus
- A lesson observation followed by 1:1 oral feedback, and a written report (from a Celta tutor 😉).
Session 1: Oct 24 5:00–6:30 PM — GMT +3 (Moscow / Istanbul)
Session 2: Nov 7 5:00–6:30 PM — GMT +3 (Moscow / Istanbul)
Coaching call: schedule with me (link to follow)
Who's this workshop for?
Well, change comes in two forms: self-initiated change, usually for the better, and slap-you-in-the-face change.
If you're the kind of person who sits around and waits for change to happen, pass this on.
But if you are the change maker, this one is for you.
This course is designed for teachers of any background, any experience. If you are just starting out, this will help you find your way. If you've been going strong for years, this will help you understand things in your practice that you might previously have been unaware of.
As teachers, we know that we are the change makers. And in order to make a change happen in others, we must start with ourselves.
